Heavy Vehicle Control Centre - Sigirino/Giornico

Immagine del progetto
Sector

Logistics and transport.

Client

Institutional administrative (Canton).

Data

Intervention area: 40'000 m².
Built surface area: 3,000 m².

Result

In just 3 months, a new and extremely functional control concept was developed for the Heavy Vehicle Control Centre initially planned in Sigirino. The solution proposed for the CCVP in Ticino was extremely innovative and allowed an exponential increase in the number of heavy vehicles checked daily. This evidence was perfectly in line with the goal of deterrence for which the heavy vehicle control centres were promoted throughout Switzerland. This concept was then taken up and implemented in other cantons. Subsequently, from the planned location in Sigirino, the location was moved to Giornico, where it was opened in 2022.

Potentials

Dynamic control concept (instead of static).

Activities

Development of an unprecedented logistical-functional concept and its incorporation in a confined space.

Procedure

Initial situation
The client had been commissioned by the federal government to develop a Heavy Vehicle Control Centre on an elongated plot of land that did not allow for the control system included in other similar centres planned in the country.
The competent cantonal office had only three months to submit a proposal to the federal office in charge.

Step 1 - Analysis
Analysis of the final control objectives and identification of a new process logic on the basis of the hierarchy of control activities and the time required.

Phase 2 - Proposal
Proposal of an alternative ‘funnel’ system with a ‘free way’ side lane allowing the control of all heavy vehicles in transit and a deepening of the different ad hoc controls.

Phase 3 - Project
The project of the new HVCC in Giornico was awarded to deltaZERO architects.
